For True, Real Time Windows Operation and Control of Your PAC Acoustic Emission (AE) System (DiSP, MISTRAS and SPARTAN) Under WINDOWS 98/ME/2000/XP.

AEwin is a 32 bit WINDOWS, Data Acquisition and Replay program capable of running PAC�s DiSP, SAMOS, PCI-2, MISTRAS or SPARTAN based products. Utilizing full WINDOWS resources including; Setting of any WINDOWS available screen resolutions, Printing, Networking, Multi-Tasking, Multi-Threading, etc, the program runs under WINDOWS 98/2000/ME/XP operating systems.  However, the best performance will be obtained using WINDOWS 2000/XP.  AEwin is fully compatible with PAC�s standard (DTA) data files, which allows you to replay and analyze all your previously collected AE files.

AEwin is easy to learn, operate and use.  The software has all the acquisition, graphing and analysis capabilities that you have come to expect in your AE system, plus many more new and enhanced features to ease your data analysis and visualization tasks.  Multiple copies of AEwin can be run at once, one for acquisition with full display and analysis capabilities and one or more as Replay for additional analysis purposes.


General AE display and analysis capabilities: 

  • Provides a framework for easily adding graphs and graph screens to the main system WINDOW.

  • Has a very flexible line dump capability, which can be called at any time, in any screen, which can be scrolled up or down.

  • Offers various user-selectable tool bars including; Setup icon toolbar, acquisition control, line dump, status toolbar and statistics tool bar.

  • Contains many built in, enhanced features including;  Graph zooming and panning, more flexible graph setup, more graphs, and filtering functions.

  • Printing capabilities include; Print a graph, a screen or multiple screens to a WINDOWS or network printer, to the clipboard or to a JPEG file. 

  • Comes in Location and Non-Location (DAQ) versions.


Graphing capabilities:
  • AEwin Waveform Viewing Exceptional 2-D and 3-D graphing capabilities that allow the setup of multiple graphs on a screen, limited only by the screen resolution.

  • Hit/Event identification that highlights selected data in other graphs.

  • Ability to set up and individually size (on screen) many different types of graphs including; 2-D line graphs, histograms, point plots, waveforms, FFTs, overlays, multiple plots on a single graph and color options

  • Capability to arrange multiple graphs on a screen

Graphing capabilities overview:

Many graphs per screen can be viewed in real time or replay. This screen shows some of the flexibility of AE-WIN. In this overview, 2D and 3D graphs, waveforms, FFT�s, line graphs, histo-grams, multi-plot graphs, etc. are shown.

  • Colored (Scatter) point plots allow you to display any AE feature or parameter (e.g. channel number) as a color value

  • The colors can be changed, the levels can be manually set or automatically scaled

  • individual planes can be turned on or off for easy data visualization

AEwin Waveform Viewing Clustering:
  • Clustering of point plot graphs is a standard feature in AEwin. This feature works on hit or event based graphs.

  • A very simple menu allows the user to set up clusters as a function of actual screen units or % of screen.

  • The user can set the minimum cluster size separately for X & Y directions, the cluster threshold, sorting criteria for grading clusters with color selection and level control.

  • You can also select to imbed the prioritized cluster results table as part of the graph or can pop-up the cluster table using the F6 key.

Location determination:

The standard version of AEwin has Zonal and Linear Location modes, while the optional �Full Location� software adds Planar Location for a free surface, a plate, and a cylinder.  Other available options include 3D Location and a Spherical 3D Location.

Key location features:AEwin Location Capabilities

  • Multiple (8) location groups standard, (32 optional), each capable of using all the AE channels in the AE system. Mouse oriented sensor setup includes;  Set sensors manually (click and drop), automated sensor setup for triangular setup, and easy sensor editing drag and drop, or table entry based sensor position.
  • Multiple 1, 2, and 3 dimensional location modes.

  • Flexible Clustering, cluster reporting and Cluster statistics available on any point plot graph screen (not just limited to location).

  • User-selectable location structure visualization to ease setup.  Options include; plate, vertical vessel, horizontal vessel, sphere, and free, each with specific setup menu�s geared for easy setup of that structure, including automated and manual placement of sensors, weld lines, nozzles, etc. 

  • Incorporates attenuation profiling into location software (to view a sensor coverage map and provide source amplitude information).

  • Visualization overlay planes to ease setup and viewing of location setup and results.  Overlay planes include; sensors, grid, attenuation map, welds and nozzles.

  • Advanced Location setup capabilities provides improved event detection classification, hit and event filtering, and accurate source location techniques

AEwin Waveform Viewing Accurate Source Location:
  • The "Smart Location Algorithm" (SLA) uses multiple timing features, multiple hits and is geometry aware to use the data which provides the best location result.

  • Up to 4 different timing strategies can be implemented, each with their own timing feature, velocity setting and frequency range.

  • Event filtering menu allows you to eliminate certain types of hits (e.g. reflections, excess hits in an event, etc.).

  • Event detection setup menu lets you set up various checks to make sure each hit is a member of the event.

  • Material data base allows you to reference a material to find its velocity.

  • Plot RLQ button gives direct access to dispersion curves.

Automated Location setup features:
  • AEwin Waveform ViewingAEwin location setup provides an easy, intuitive, interface for setting up sensors on a structure. This is done by positioning sensors with the mouse, using cursor readout or entering coordinates in a table, or with automated placement.

  • Graphics can be imported to show the object being monitored, draw additional details (welds or nozzles) and placing sensors. This setup goes through to the actual location graph automatically for location view visualization.


User-friendly attenuation profile for source amplitude correction:

  • AEwin can use an attenuation profile of the AE response on the structure. This information is important in determining the source amplitude of an AE event.

  • Attenuation profiles can easily be constructed and displayed in tabular and graphical form. They can be saved and recalled.

  • AEwin automatically determines the amplitude at the source (Source Amplitude) and provides this as a graphable AE feature.

  • User can perform attenuation study on structure by entering AE amplitude at different distances to create an attenuation profile or map.

Event linking graphics:

  • Any AE data point on any Scatter (Point) plot - whether hit or event based can be selected.

    • A cursor is used in the graph to provide a direct link to the associated waveform and line listing

    • A display cursor identifies each hit/event in each point plot graph throughout AEwin

  • Once an event is selected:

    • Multiple hits making up the event are shown (3 as shown on right for a 2D event, 2 waveforms for a linear or 1dimensional event) as well as the event record

    • If an AE �hit� data point is selected with single waveform. The hit line listing is displayed

  • Any event can be accessed by Hit/Event linking to show the waveform composition and the event and hit data which forms the event.

  • Just move the data cursor over a point, right click and select Hit/Event Linking to show the waveform and event data.
